Welcome to ICAN of Orlando
Come share your story with us! This is a local chapter of the International Cesarean Awareness Network, Inc. (ICAN). ICAN is a nonprofit organization founded by Esther Booth Zorn in 1982. ICAN's mission is to improve maternal-child health by preventing unnecessary cesareans through education, providing support for cesarean recovery, and promoting Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC).
ICAN of Orlando is a mother-to-mother support group. We hold free monthly meetings for anyone planning a spontaneous vaginal birth, anyone recovering from a cesarean and the birth professionals and activists who support us. Come to a meeting and share your story with a group of women who truly "get it"! Our members and Chapter Leaders are always willing and able to provide support and ideas.
This is our local chapter’s website. Here, you can find information about our meetings, upcoming events, relevant articles and websites, various birth studies, and suggested reading materials. The International website can be found at www.ican-online.org . Our purpose is to reduce the increasing cesarean rate through education and provide support for women to heal from past birth experiences and to plan for future ones. Please consider becoming a subscriber. Each membership with ICAN brings us that much closer to our long-term goals, however, membership to ICAN is not required to attend meetings or obtain support. Members will be supporting an all-volunteer international organization, which educates families in need of birth, cesarean and VBAC information. Disclaimers No advertisement or solicitation of business or services on the list or at meetings. This specifically includes birth professionals. ICAN offers a professional subscription rate for
birth professionals who support ICAN's mission. Your business will be listed on the international website where individuals seeking your services can contact you directly. ICAN does not recommend or endorse certain providers. No spam, flaming or doctor bashing will be tolerated. NOTE: The medical and health issues discussed on this page, our yahoo list, or at our meetings, are not a substitute for consultation from health-care providers.
